The Painleve Test and Reducibility to the Canonical Forms for Higher-Dimensional Soliton Equations with Variable-Coefficients

The general KdV equation (gKdV) derived by T. Chou is one of the famous (1+1) dimensional soliton equations with variable coefficients. It is well-known that the gKdV equation is integrable. In this paper a higher-dimensional gKdV equation, which is integrable in the sense of the Painleve test, is presented. A transformation that links this equation to the canonical form of the Calogero-Bogoyavlenskii-Schiff equation is found. Furthermore, the form and similar transformation for the higher-dimensional modified gKdV equation are also obtained.Comment: Published in SIGMA (Symmetry, Integrability and Geometry: Methods and Applications) at http://www.emis.de/journals/SIGMA

Optimal Sharing Rules in Repeated Partnerships

    Get PDF
We study a simple model of repeated partnerships with noisy outcomes. Two partners first choose a sharing rule, under which they start their repeated interaction. We characterize the sharing rule which supports the most efficient equilibrium, and show that it suffices to consider two particular sharing rules. One is an asymmetric sharing rule, which induces only a more productive partner to work. It is optimal for impatient or less productive partners. The other treats them more evenly, and prevails for more productive and patient partners. Those results indicate how technological parameters and patience determine the role of a more productive partner. If the partners become more productive or more patient, the productive partner ceases to be a residual claimant and sacrifices his own share, in order to foster teamwork.

Efficient Detectors for MIMO-OFDM Systems under Spatial Correlation Antenna Arrays

This work analyzes the performance of the implementable detectors for multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technique under specific and realistic operation system condi- tions, including antenna correlation and array configuration. Time-domain channel model has been used to evaluate the system performance under realistic communication channel and system scenarios, including different channel correlation, modulation order and antenna arrays configurations. A bunch of MIMO-OFDM detectors were analyzed for the purpose of achieve high performance combined with high capacity systems and manageable computational complexity. Numerical Monte-Carlo simulations (MCS) demonstrate the channel selectivity effect, while the impact of the number of antennas, adoption of linear against heuristic-based detection schemes, and the spatial correlation effect under linear and planar antenna arrays are analyzed in the MIMO-OFDM context.Comment: 26 pgs, 16 figures and 5 table

Experimental and Numerical Investigations of Annular Freejets

    Get PDF
The structure of an axisymmetric freejet issuing from an annular orifice is described for the stagnation chamber to ambient pressure ratio of 13. The flowfield is numerically calculated. In the calculations, the physical plane is transformed to the computational one because of taking more grid points in the vicinity of the orifice. For two-dimensional calculations, the operator splitting method is used, and also the two-step Lax-Wendroff scheme is applied to each operator. To verify the computational data, laser interferometry is employed to determine the density in the freejet. The radially resolved densities are determined by means of the Abel inversion. The experimental results show a fairly good agreement with the computational results

A redescription of Zavrelia simantoneoa (Sasa, Suzuki and Sakai, 1998) comb. nov.

Examination of the holotype of Micropsectra simantoneoa Sasa, Suzuki and Sakai, 1998 revealed that the species should be transferred to the genus Zavrelia. The male adult has hairy eyes, antennae with 10 flagellomeres, a costa ending proximal to the tip of M3+4, and a short and flattened superior volsella. This is the second Zavrelia species from Japan, and the 11th in the world. Article submitted 25. September 2014, accepted 16. October 2014, published 22. December 2014
